Digitization: an alternate option for information handling
With the successful completion of the Thunder Bay Public Library Digitization Project , I created a senior year Special Topics university course for LIS (Library and Information Studies).
The intent was to make graduating Library Technician students aware of the process of Digitization as a creative solution for handling photographic and text information. This course guided the students through various issues such as:
- Copyright and the Internet
- Computer hardware and software requirements
- Project Management skills
- Project Documentation
- Digital Library issues
- Scanning / Storage capacities / File sizes
- Budget considerations
